What’s Trending

I always want to know what’s trending out there and what everyone is talking about. I guess the hip way to say it is that I like to be “In the know.” I figured if I like to keep up I’m sure there’s other out there who likes to keep up too so why not make it a weekly segment on the blog.  On Friday’s be sure to come back right here and check out what’s been trending for the week! Now without further ado let’s get started on our very first What’s Trending!!

Trending

  1. #ChineseNewYear

This week marked new year celebrations for the lunar calendar. We begin the year of the dog in the Chinese New Year. We were in Singapore a few years ago during the New Year Celebrations and it was amazing all the floats, flowers, lights and decorations. The celebrations last two weeks and some people are actually off work to celebrate! Can you imagine?!? I would love to be there this year with all the dog decorations. One thing I distinctly still remember from the celebrations is that everywhere you went you heard the New Year song and it gets stuck in your head!! If you want listen to it here, you’re welcome!

2. #Icouldntgiveupforlent

As lent just started today, with that comes the tradition of everyone sharing what they are giving up for lent. I’m not one that has every participated in giving up something for lent. I get the symbolism behind it, but I feel like people a lot of times miss the point and give up something they don’t really do/eat/drink regularly, essentially not giving up much at all. If I was to participate there’s a few things I could put in this category, to name a few of them coffee, ice cream, or my computer.

3. #BlackPanther

Black Panther is a new Marval comic movie. While I admit I enjoy a lot of super hero movies and shows. I’m not a super fan, I haven’t seen all of them, and probably 30% of the time the story doesn’t make sense to me. However inside this trending hashtag are picture from trolls who are claiming to have been beat up at showing of the movie.
They’re using pictures from bar fights, of bruises from accidents, and worst of all pictures of battered woman. They are saying they are racially motivated attacks at the move. I don’t get it, but it seems people will do anything for a little attention.

4. #ValentinesDay

How can we forget that this week included Valentine’s day, mostly because of the overwhelming amount of people who took to social media to brag about their day. Every time I opened social media Wednesday I was bombarded with posts about how everyone has the best significant other in the entire world. It’s cute, I get it, but I was not one of those people bragging on my husband on social media. Mainly because he’d never see it and the point of the post is to wishing your BF/GF/spouse a happy day. Instead I told him in person, and he in turn cooked us an amazing steak and lobster dinner that we enjoyed at home, on the couch, watching TV. It was perfect!

5.#Pyeongchang2018

Unless you’re living under a rock, I’m sure you know that was the first week of the Winter Olympics. Pyeong Chang is the name of the county in South Korea hosting the Olympic games. As always there were tons of stories attached to the hashtags about the games. One of the biggest stories according to my news feeds was when Shaun White won his gold medal. I think 4 out of every five posts were commenting on it. It was clearly
